Benefits of Heat Pumps for Minnesota Homes

Heat pumps don’t generate heat like furnaces. Instead, they transfer heat, which is a highly energy efficient way to heat and cool your home. Here’s why homeowners in Minneapolis and St. Paul are installing heat pumps:

  • Consistent Comfort – Heat pumps provide heat and AC in one for year-round comfort. We install cold-climate heat pumps that are specifically designed for our cold Minnesota winters.
  • Better Indoor Air Quality – No combustion means cleaner, healthier indoor air.
  • Eco-Friendly – Reduces your carbon footprint while keeping your home comfortable.
  • Lower Energy Costs – Electric heat pumps can be powered by solar panels to drastically reduce your heating and cooling costs.

Types of Heat Pumps

There are three primary types of heat pump HVAC systems: all-electric ducted, ductless, and dual-fuel. We install all three types and will help you choose the best fit for your home.

All-Electric Ducted Heat Pumps

Ducted heat pumps connect to your home’s air duct system. They deliver heated and cooled air to your living spaces through air vents, the same way a central furnace or air conditioner does, and have an electric resistance backup for extreme cold. If your house has an air duct system, a ducted heat pump is a great option for whole-home heating and cooling.

Ductless Heat Pumps

Mitsubishi ductless heat pumps (also called mini split heat pumps) work without air ducts. Instead, indoor air handlers (also called heads) are installed throughout your home and deliver heated/cooled air directly into the rooms or areas they’re installed in. Ductless heat pumps are perfect for houses that don’t have ductwork and for adding heat/AC to specific areas like a home office, addition, or finished basement.

Dual-Fuel Heat Pumps

A dual-fuel heat pump (also called a hybrid heat pump) combines a ducted heat pump with a furnace for backup heat in extreme cold. This is a great option if you want to install a heat pump but are worried about relying entirely on all-electric heating in winter. A dual-fuel system will use the heat pump for AC in the summer and for heat during moderately cold weather but automatically switch to the furnace when temperatures drop substantially.
